Old Fashioned Home Making

Welcome
Homemaking & Homemade

About Me

Hey, I’m Lauren and I’m so glad you’ve stopped by my little space here on the internet! I want to share with you a bit about myself.

My Story

I am a mom of one and lover of all things antique, homemade, natural and old fashioned. Born and raised in South Carolina, I can still say that is my home and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I grew up in a home where there was always a home cooked meal on the stove and always something inviting in the oven. Homebody could be a another easy term to describe me. That is where you can find me most of the time. At home. I love caring for my home and finding new ways to decorate, new recipes to whip up, getting creative, and trying out DIYs. I have a special interest in a healthy home that promotes wellness as well. From Kombucha brewing to a fridge full of veggies and local meats. You can tell wholesome eating and health is very important to me.

I purchased my first home as a single mom in 2019 and was determined right away to create a place where my son and I enjoyed being. Creating that same homey environment I grew up in was a must for me. It makes sense to say that aspect of my life really contributed to me having a great childhood, and I wanted to recreate that for him. I hope to inspire other women in creating homes for their families. I want them to know it’s not hard and it’s truly very rewarding. As a single mom on a low budget, I hope to show you anyone can do it. By sharing the things I love, I hope to inspire, give hope, and encourage. Everyone’s house has the potential to be a home that is beautiful, comfortable and functional, that is my belief.

Why Did I Start a Blog?

As you read above, homemaking is very important to me and I want to inspire, but I also really needed a creative outlet. Being a creative type, this blog gives me that outlet I needed to express my interests and creativity, while others are benefiting. It just made sense!

Random Things About Me

  • I love a good ole’ hot black cup of coffee and would love to be a barista for a day
  • A quality conversation or time in prayer are food for my soul
  • I have big dreams of self sufficiency and homesteading

Decided to take a chance and go for wallpaper in t Decided to take a chance and go for wallpaper in the bedrooms and I have zero regrets about it…despite the remonstration I received on the idea initially. The subtle pattern of this accent wall has brought so much interest into this room of plain white. Thinking I need to add a little wall paper anywhere I can now 🤔
Still over here doing all things strawberries. I s Still over here doing all things strawberries. I stopped buying strawberries throughout the year. I generally try to only eat / buy fruits that are naturally in season as a stretch to eat more sustainably. You could say I’ve been waiting for strawberry season since last summer 🤣 also wanted to make a recipe with a fraction of the sugar so praise God for Pomonas. This is my second season canning with this stuff. I love it! I write a blog post last week sharing this delicious recipe and created some cute printable labels to download for free as well. #homecanning #canning
